Error message on failed credit card transaction

Question

I've set up my payment gateway correctly and it all works fine.

When a customer enters invalid credit-card information or misses out information, then the users just sees the generic error; 'The payment gateway refused the transaction'

What can I do so the user will know what they have to enter in again?

Answer

Unfortuately, not much. This is dependant on the payment gateway - some will do checks on their side for required fields, some will automatically reject the payment and run the gateway callback. You may be able to customize this on the gateway backend.

Using the language strings, you can change the "The payment gateway refudes the transaction" error to something more explanatory, suggesting possible causes of the error.
