How can I get customers to add extra information for products they're purchasing?

Is there a way to allow customers to enter data when purchasing certain products from the site? For example, I sell web hosting packages and need customers to be able to enter their desired usersname/password/domain name.

Answer

This depends on whether you need information specific to each item in the basket, or to the order in general.

CactuShop doesn't provide for individual fields or options on checkout to customize specific items. However, the checkout process form does include a comments section. If selling hosting (for example) we would recommend that such information is requested via this comments box.

Our own order form has a similar comments box for this purpose.
