Question

Do I need PGP or any extra third-party software installed on my server in order to run the add-on CEM encryption system?

Answer

The CEM consists of two parts - a script version of the DES (Data Encryption Standard) algorithm and the Cactusoft Encrypted Mail decryption application.

The CEM decryption application is a 32-bit Windows executable and must run on a suitable platform (Windows 95/98/NT/200/XP or later). It will not run on Unix/Linux or Mac OS.

The encryption scripts have the same requirements regarding servers as the rest of the scripts (see the system requirements). PGP or any form of email encryption support on the server is not required - our encryption script handles this. But in order to secure the link between the user's browser and your site, the credit card payment form should be running under SSL.

Email orders arrive with encrypted attachments which will open up into the decryption application if it is installed.
