Question

I am using multiple payment gateways, where the customer can select a gateway from the dropdown during the checkout process.

How can I specify one as the default option?

Answer

You cannot directly specify the default selected option. However you can set the order of the list - and the top-most item in the list is the one selected by default.

The order of the list is specified in the 'paymentsystem' config setting. The item at the front of the list is the one that appears at the top, and hence the default item selected.

(NB: This only works for new customers. With repeat customers, it selects their previously selected payment gateway by default.)
