Question

How do I setup UPS real time shipping? Where do I go in order to request an access key?

Answer

First, you will need to have an account with UPS. Next, go to this page of the UPS e-commerce web site to get an XML access key:

Get access key

For CactuShop, it is the XML access key you want - if you use the developers key or HTML key, it won't work. The site asks you for your 'developers key' next - if you don't know this, use the link to have it emailed to you. You can then generate the required XML access key. If all these different keys sound a little confusing, don't blame us, blame UPS :)

Once you have this XML access key, you can go to the CactuShop config settings. This XML key is the one to use for the UPS_AccessKey config setting. The other settings should be self-explanatory, or are dealt with in detail in the user manual.

You will also need to set the shippingsystem to 'u', so that CactuShop uses UPS rather than CactuShop internal shipping.

Once setup, run through a test order and ensure that your site pulls a set of shipping rates. If you get an error at the shipping stage of the checkout process, consult the knowledgebase with the error number. The most common error experienced is due to invalid account details, normally because the wrong access key is being used (i.e. the developer's key or HTML access key instead of the XML access key).
