Question

I'm having trouble setting up 2 currencies on CactuShop 5. I want to set a new default currency and then US Dollars as a secondary currency. How do I set this up?

Answer

The first thing to remember is that Currency Type 1 is always the default currency. The default currency is always the first one a customer sees the site in, what all prices products are held in, and what all other currency exchange rates are based on.

If you want to change the default currency, go to 'Currencies' under 'Regional Setup' on the backend, and set up Currency Type 1. It is recommended to always have the Exchange Rate for Currency Type 1 set to '1' (theoretically you could set this to another number - say if you've got all your product prices set and don't want to reset them - but it'll make calculations for the other currency types, and for future product pricing, rather tricky).

Once that's done, view the site. You'll notice that on the front end, all the prices will be the same as before but the new currency symbol will show up throughout.

To add further currencies, go back to the Currencies page and configure Currency Type 2, 3 and 4. The Exchange Rate should be set to the Exchange Rate in comparision to Currency Type 1. So if you've got Currency Type 2 exhange rate set to 1.5, all prices when viewed in Currency Type 2 will be 1.5 times bigger.

For more information in configuring multiple currencies, grab a copy of the User and Developer Manual, which has a section devoted to multiple currencies.
