Upgrading your store from v5.x to the latest version (v6.1)
Question
I want to upgrade my v5.x CactuShop store to the latest version (v6.1). What is required?
Answer
The first step is to check if you still have access to our user area. If not, you would need to renew this to obtain the latest full version of CactuShop.
Alternatively, you could opt to upgrade your site using the trial version, and then just purchase support access to obtain the latest full software once you are happy that your upgraded site is ready to go.
In order to actually do the upgrade, there are several steps.
1. Upgrade Data
The database format in v6.x differs in some respects from the v5.x database. To upgrade data, we provide a free piece of software called the data tool. Please see chapter 3 in the CactuShop manual PDF for details of how to upgrade your data.
2. Design a New Skin
CactuShop v6.1 has a far more extensive CSS implementation, and consequently the skin format is quite different from that in v5.x. This makes it difficult to upgrade a v5.1 skin to v6.1; in practice it is far easier to start with the v6.1 default skin (or another v6.1 skin from our downloads page) and recreate your site design.
Upgrading from v6.1 Trial to v6.1 Standard or Pro
The database and skin formats are identical. So if you are running the trial version for testing and then purchase the standard or pro versions, it is simple to upgrade your site. Simply replace the ASP files in the root, includes folder and payment folders with those from the standard or pro zips. You may need to reset the license number and connection string in the config.asp file.
