Question

At what stage, in terms of concurrent users or product line quantity, or database size, should we consider upgrading from Access 2000 to SQL server to enhance performance?

Answer

There is no hard defined limit. As a rule, we would suggest any site with more than 70,000 page views per month be run on SQL Server or MySQL. Access is fine for smaller sites.

That said, Access 2000 performs far better than Access 97. We have encountered users running Access databases with up to 600,000 page views per month on a dedicated machine. But at these levels it becomes much slower and very unreliable.
